Sami Kontio Unlimited

Finnish aerobatic champion and airshow artist Sami Kontio planted his feet firmly in the air in 2002. Only ten flight hours after earning his pilot wings, he was already competing in the Finnish National Aerobatic Championships and winning the silver medal in the Sportsman class – what a feat! Seven years later in Silverstone, England, the talented Finn made aerobatic history: in a tough competition against all the world’s greatest he ranked eighth, right after the previous World Champions who were also competing; an outstanding result that solidly established him as one of the top aerobatic aces around. He had clearly known what he wanted from the sport, and has striven relentlessly after excellence in all his subsequent performances.

Ever hungry to push the limits Sami moved up the tech ladder, stepping from his first aerobatic plane, the Christen Eagle, into his current high-performance weapon of choice, the Avions Mudry CAP 232. This refined aerobatic thoroughbred gives his creativity and skill free reign, while imposing as few technical limitations as possible. He conceives and deploys the most thrilling three-dimensional sequences of air-dance, in ways impossible to imitate on the ground. He likes to describe himself as half-gymnast, half figure-skater, while flying a high-precision aircraft. Perhaps he should be called an “aerial ballet dancer”?

Sami Kontio has got the will to meet even more extreme challenges, and for more precision and action in the skies.
